Man with son ‘fighting for life’ after he was hit by car in Whitechapel

A 40-year-old man and his four-year-old son were involved in a collision involving a car in Whitechapel.

The police and paramedic service were called to Whitechapel Road at the junction with Cavell Street at around midday on Sunday 8th May 2016 after reports of a collision involving a car and two pedestrians, a 40-year-old man and his four-year-old son.

After the collision a large part of Whitechapel Road was closed. At around 4:30pm the bus routes 25, 205 and 254 remained on diversion due to road closures.

A spokesperson for the police said the man had “potentially life threatening or life changing” injuries. The police said that his son was also taken to hospital but is in a stable condition.

The driver of the car involved stopped at the scene. He was not hurt and police said he is assisting them with their enquiries.
