Police constable jailed for perverting course of justice

A police constable who pleaded guilty to perverting
the course of justice following a road traffic collision in
Tower Hamlets has been jailed.

On Tuesday, 30 May, PC Miladur Khan, 30, attached to East
Area Command Unit, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment
at Southwark Crown Court after admitting to the offence on
Tuesday, 2 May.

This follows a road traffic collision between two vehicles in
Burdett Road, Poplar E14, on Wednesday, 29 June 2016.

PC Khan was asked several times to confirm if he was the
driver and he said he was. However, the local authority CCTV
confirmed that PC Khan was not the driver at the time of the
collision.

This was put to PC Khan who admitted that he had not been the
driver, and that he was protecting his brother Mured Khan. PC
Khan has been suspended from duty.

Now that criminal proceedings are complete, a special case
misconduct hearing will take place.

= Mured Khan, 26, of Stepney Way, E1, pleaded guilty to
driving without insurance at Thames Magistrates’ Court on
Wednesday, 12 April. He was disqualified from driving for six
months and fined £200. He was ordered to pay a victim
surcharge of £30 and court costs of £85.
