The police closed the park in what was described as “a serious sexual assault”

Police cordoned off Weavers Field in Bethnal Green following “a serious sexual assault” on Thursday night/Friday morning.

Members of the public who usually use the park for running found that the park was closed on Friday morning as they tried to get through.

A resident turned away at the gate today by a detective told the East London Advertiser: “The police stopped us going into the park this-morning and said there had been a serious incident.

“It’s a very poplar open space and is used every day by families and children.”

Police are urging anyone who may have seen what happened last night to call 101, but gave no further details.
