[APPEAL] Do you recognise these 2 men in attempted robbery at Barclays in Poplar

Police investigating an attempted robbery at an east London bank have issued CCTV footage in an attempt to identify two men they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

On 14 July 2015 at around 15:55hrs, two men entered Barclays Bank on East India Dock Road, Poplar.

The first man (Suspect 1) held a member of staff at knifepoint and demanded the security door be opened. When refused, he stole a customer’s wallet and mobile phone from the counter.

He then ran off with a second man (Suspect 2) – who was armed with a wheel brace and stood at the bank’s doorway throughout.

Both men were then seen to drive away from Cottage Street, Poplar in a grey Honda Accord with blacked out windows.

This vehicle was later recovered by police two days later in the Poplar area.

No one was hurt during the incident.

The two suspects are described as follows:

Suspect 1: A slim Asian man, aged 20 to 25 years, and between 5ft 9ins and 6ft tall. He was wearing a black balaclava, black hooded jacket, white gloves, black jeans and dark Nike trainers. He spoke with a London accent and was armed with a large kitchen knife.

Suspect 2: A dark-skinned man, aged 20 to 25 years, between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins and of slim to medium build. He wore a dark green, black and grey camouflage hooded jacket and dark coloured trousers. The hood was worn up and his face was covered by a scarf.

Detective Constable Richard Hall, from the Met’s Flying Squad, said: “I would urge anyone who recognises the men in the footage to contact my office on 020 8345 1404 or via 101 quoting reference 4218546/15. To remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

+ A reward of up to £25,000 may be available from Barclays Bank for information relating to this offence.
