Archives at Tower Hamlets Library go online with 500 years of East End history

The archive collections include the records of Tower Hamlets Council and its predecessor governance bodies

The archive collections include the records of Tower Hamlets Council and its predecessor governance bodies (dating from the 16th century) – for example minutes, rate books and correspondence files. Other notable collections include more than 8000 title deeds recording the transfer of properties in the borough, and documents relating to many local institutions and prominent individuals.

The library in Bancroft Road, housed in the historic 19th century Mile End Old Town municipality Vestry Hall, is also open to the public Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 5pm, Thursdays until 8pm and two Saturdays a month, for those who prefer traditional research methods in person.

Bancroft Road, off Mile End Road, is between Stepney Green and Mile End stations on the London Underground.
