Appeal following assault on driver in opposite Bethnal Green Station

Two suspects opened the victim’s car door, punched him in the face and then dragged him out of his car by his throat before punching him in the face until he was unconscious.

Detectives from Tower Hamlets investigating a suspected ‘road rage’ assault have issued CCTV footage of two men they wish to identify and speak to in connection with the incident.

On Tuesday, 12 July police were called at around 22:05hrs to a report of an assault opposite Bethnal Green Underground Station on Cambridge Heath Road in Tower Hamlets. The assault occurred minutes before; the victim received cuts and facial swelling.

As the 36-year-old victim was driving his minicab along Cambridge Heath Road he stopped at the traffic lights whereupon two suspects got out of their car nearby and spoke to the victim about a minor collision.

The two suspects opened the victim’s car door, punched him in the face and then dragged him out of his car by his throat before punching him in the face until he was unconscious.

A passer-by called the London Ambulance Service who took the victim to an east London hospital. He was later released having suffered facial scarring.

The driver of the suspect vehicle is described as a light skinned black man, aged in his 20s, 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build and clean shaven. He was wearing dark clothing

The front seat passenger of the suspect vehicle is described as a light skinned black man, aged in his 20s, 6ft 3ins tall, of slim build with short dark hair. He was also wearing dark clothing.

It is unclear as to the make, model and colour of the suspect vehicle.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the assault.
