The police were called to New Road in Whitechapel after reports of a gunshot in the area.

The attending police officers did not find a victim but were later called to a hospital where a man in his early 20s suffered a gunshot wound.

At the time users on social media were advising their friends about a road closure and to avoid the New Road area.

TFL reported on Twitter that route D3 was diverted from New Road due to a ‘police incident’.
