Appeal for witnesses and information following fatal collision in Whitechapel

Roads and Transport Police are appealing for
witnesses and information following a fatal fail-to-stop
collision in Whitechapel.

Police were called shortly before 2230hrs on Tuesday, 25
April to reports of a car and pedestrian in collision in
Mansell Street, E1.

Officers attended and the pedestrian – a man aged 59 – was
taken to hospital. He was later pronounced dead at around
0030hrs, 26 April. Next of kin have been informed.

The driver of the car – a silver or grey BMW 1-series – did
not stop at the scene.

Officers are appealing for anyone who has seen, or has
information about, a car like this with extensive damage to
its bonnet and windscreen, to contact them.

They are also keen to hear from anyone who witnesses the
collision, or who has any information about it.
