Denning Point, a 23-storey tower on Commercial Street “did not fully comply with the requirements” of the safety tests said Tower Hamlets Council.
The building of 81 flats is covered by Fire Rated (FR) pansel which has a fire rated core specifically designed to prevent flame spread, according to a letter delivered to residents of Denning Point from the owners EastendHomes.
All the recommended fire barriers were installed and are in place, they added.
But affter an inspection with the London Fire Brigade, a 24 hour, a seven day a week fire patrol has been introduced to inspect communal areas through the night.
In a statement EastendHomes confirmed that a sample of the aluminium composite material (ACM) cladding used on Denning Point had not passed a fire safety test.
“EastendHomes are seeking further information on the tests in order to determine the action to be taken. The cladding panels on Denning Point are a fire retardant (FR) version of an ACM panel but even so have been deemed not to comply by the BRE. We are also seeking further information from the DCLG and an updated will be provided as soon as EEH is in a position to do so.” they added.
It is awaiting further feedback from DCLG as to whether the cladding needs to be removed.
