East London Mosque evacuated after “credible” bomb threat

The Metropolitan Police were called to the East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre, Whitechapel after a threatening email was received. The threat caused the mosque to close and cancel one of its mandatory daily prayers.

A spokesperson for the Met said: “Police were called at 15:02hrs on Thursday, 7 December after a threatening email was sent to the East London Mosque in Whitechapel. 

“Nothing suspicious was found the incident was stood down shortly before 17:00hrs.”

The police said that further enquiries will be made into the incident, the mosque announced that it will reopen for night prayers.
