In a remarkable turn of events, Sporting Bengal achieved a momentous victory over professional EFL League Two club AFC Wimbledon, with a final score of 3-1.

Sporting Bengal, established in 1996 with a mission to provide local young talents a platform at the ‘semi-pro’ level, fulfilled their vision in grand style in 2023, stunning AFC Wimbledon.

Despite the looming threat of Storm Ciaran, the Mile End Stadium pitch received the green light, and the game was given the green signal.

The evening unfolded with an electric atmosphere, graced by a vibrant crowd of local fans, dedicated ground hoppers, and some loyal away support for The Dons. The Mile End Fox, a local legend, also made its presence felt.

AFC Wimbledon fielded a youthful yet talented team, featuring players like Quain Bartley, who had already made several appearances for the first team. However, under the leadership of Steve Clark and his assistant, Matt Guidera, Sporting Bengal stood as formidable opponents on their home turf. Right from the start, their intensity and physicality were evident.

Sheri Artmeladze, a recurring hero in their recent matches, once again proved to be the star of the evening. The talented forward showcased his big-game prowess with a mesmerizing display of skill and finishing, making him a fan favorite.

Sheri struck the first blow, picking up the ball on the left edge of the Dons’ box, skillfully maneuvering past the defense, and delivering a precise shot into the top left corner. The scoreboard read 1-0 in favor of Bengal.

The second goal was nothing short of spectacular. A well-executed team move saw Damilola Olusesi play a perfectly weighted ball over the top, finding Sheri, who audaciously chipped the ball from outside the box, sending it elegantly into the net.

On the hour mark, the irrepressible Sheri completed his stunning hat-trick, receiving a trademark Steven Carvell through ball and cheekily dinking it past the onrushing goalkeeper.

To their credit, the young Dons continued to fight and managed to secure a consolation goal through the highly talented Justin Clarke, hinting at a promising future.

Sporting Bengal successfully closed out the game to secure a historic and memorable victory, marking a significant milestone in their journey.
