Huge plumes of smoke were seen rising over Tower Hamlets after flames erupted at an office block on Monday afternoon. Six engines and about 35 firefighters are at the scene. The fire appeared to be close to the Old Truman Brewery buildings.

A spokeswoman for the London Fire Brigade brigade said: “The fire is affecting a four-storey office building and part of the office on the second floor is alight.”

The brigade was called shortly before 2.30pm and the fire was brought under control at about 5pm but Brick Lane was closed for some time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
