Friends of Czech man murdered in Poplar raise £10,000 in a day to send body back to family

The friends of a Czech businessman who was beaten to death in a row in a chicken shop have raised £10,000 in a day to send the body of ‘great man with a big heart’ back home to his family.

Zdenek Makar, 31, was found dead on the streets close to his home in Poplar after being allegedly attacked by a group of men with a metal chain after a row in a chicken shop

His friends who described the murdered man as ‘a great man’ set up a fundraising page to raise the cash through donations on the gofundme website. They will use the money raised to send Zdeneks body back to his family.

Zdenek died in East India Dock Road Poplar shortly before midnight on September 21.

A post-mortem held on September 23 gave the cause of death as caused by a head injury.

Zdenek’s next of kin have been informed.
