Two police constables attached to Tower Hamlets borough were issued with a final written warnings after a Misconduct hearing held by the Metropolitan Police Service.

The officers were deployed to protect a crime scene but during that time it was alleged that they were discovered on the floor sleeping at 4 o’clock in the morning.

Because they left the crime scene and their police equipment unprotected they behaved in a manner likely to bring discredit to the police service and/or undermine public confidence in it.

At the hearing both officers (who have no previous complaints made against them) showed genuine insight and remorse for their actions. The panel determined the most appropriate outcome to be a final written warning as the risk of a repeat of such unacceptable behaviour to be low.

The location of the crime scene is not being disclosed.
