On Tuesday, 1 November police were called shortly after 9pm after a 43-year-old man was hit in the mouth.

CCTV taken on Brick Lane caught the moment the suspect came out of a nearby shop and walked straight into the victim’s girlfriend. When the victim asked the suspect to apologise to his girlfriend, the suspect refused and hit him across the face.

The victim was taken to an east London hospital for treatment and was later discharged.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged in his mid 40s, 5ft 10ins tall with a bald head with short brown hair on the sides and a brown beard.

He was wearing large black rimmed glasses, a grey jacket over a red top, beige trousers and brown shoes. He was carrying a white shopping bag labelled ‘Religion’. He was also smoking a cigar.

PC Lydia Stephens, investigating officer from Tower Hamlets, said: “This was a violent and unprovoked assault in the middle of a busy street. Thankfully the victim was not seriously injured. If you recognise the man in this footage, please get in contact with us.”

Anyone with information or any witnesses are urged to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
