Person hit by train at Bethnal Green Overground Station

A person was reported to have been hit by a train at the Bethnal Green Overground station, last night, after getting on to the train tracks. The entire station was shut down while the situation was being handled and has now been reopened to the public. It is not known what caused the individual to get in to harms way.

As of 8.56PM the victim was still alive according to a police officer standing guard at the entrance of the station. We have reached out to the Metropolitan Police for a comment but they have not responded to our request as of yet.

Concerned residents had gathered along the pavements facing the station, which is currently going under part-time refurbishment as part of the TFL’s modernisation plan. Some local residents were prevented from entering their homes due to emergency vehicles blocking the entrances.

Several police, ambulance and fire emergency vehicles were present at the scene occupying a whole section of Three Colts Lane, where the station is situated. Along with those, a trauma response unit was also present with the occupants of the vehicle carrying out emergency treatment.

The incident caused severe delays on many lines including those between Liverpool Street and Bethnal green for almost up to 40 minutes. The nearby London Fields and Cambridge Heath overground stations also faced severe delays and cancellations.
